How Do I Use the Thorpe Mill Evacuation Mattress Sheet?
The Thorpe Mill Mattress Evacuation Sheet is intended to be used by two trained operators and only for the intended purpose of an emergency evacuation. The evacuation sheet is designed to be placed underneath the non-ambulant user’s air mattress. Please see below for instructions on how to use:
During Use:
- Remove the mattress
- Lay the evacuation sheet on the bed frame - straps side up
- Replace the mattress on top of the evacuation sheet
- The cross straps with buckles should be stored in the pockets at each end awaiting use
During Transit:
- Remove tubes from mattress pump and insert stopper/bung into the ends of the tubes if supplied
- Remove cross straps with buckles at each side from the pockets
- Pull the large pockets over the ends of the mattress to secure the sheet to the mattress
- Ensure the user’s feet are in the foot pocket
- Clip buckles together across the user’s chest and legs
- Tighten to make the mattress like a canoe to secure the user
- With one operator at the foot end and one at the head end, manoeuvre the user to safety using the strong looped pulling straps
- If moving downstairs, ensure the users head is at the top of the sheet and feet first down the stairs

How Do I Wash This Piece of Evacuation Equipment?
